TMJ Syndrome comes from problems within the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). The joint is comparable to a hinge that connects the jaw to the temporal bones of the skull (bones in front of each ear). It is because of this joint that you can talk, chew and yawn. Everyone has TMJ, but only some people suffer from TMJ syndrome. TMJ syndrome causes many uncomfortable problems that affect many adults today. It causes varying degrees of pain and discomfort, and the cause can either be from a traumatic injury or repetitive stress and wear on the jaw, such as:
Grinding or clenching teeth, this puts a lot of pressure on the TMJ.
The soft cushion and disc move between the ball and socket of the joint
Chiropractic treatment can alleviate the pain and symptoms that are caused by these problems. Ogden Wellness Center uses gentle chiropractic techniques to properly align the spine and jaw to relieve excessive stress on the head, neck, and back. We focus on relieving tension that is coming from the muscles surrounding the TMJ. In some cases of TMJ syndrome, it can be a result of poor posture or a back problem. We will fully assess the alignment of your neck and upper back and perform adjustments as we see fit that will provide relief to your jaw.
Ogden Wellness Center treats the following TMJ symptoms:
Loss of hearing
A sensation of an object in the throat
Shoulder, cheek, or jaw pain
