Carpal Tunnel Treatment

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

carpal tunnel pain

A repetitive stress injury is what causes carpal tunnel syndrome (also known as CTS). A carpal tunnel is on the palm side of the wrist, there is a narrow passageway of bones and ligaments. There is a nerve called the median nerve that runs through the carpal tunnel. It controls the movement and sensation of the thumb and first three fingers. If the nerve is ever compressed, a person will feel the pain associated with CTS.

Chiropractic Treatment for Carpal Tunnel

Carpal tunnel syndrome pain can be reduced and prevented with chiropractic adjustments to the upper spine, wrist, and elbow. Misalignment in the spine does contribute to CTS symptoms. It can also be prevented with early chiropractic care, as well. The sooner you feel symptoms and get treatment, the better. If you tend to use a repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements to perform a specific hobby or while at work, such as typing, it is very important to consider seeking out proper chiropractic care in order to prevent CTS.

If you are currently experiencing any pain and symptoms in the hands or wrists, chiropractic adjustments can help release pressure on the affected nerves. Common symptoms of this common syndrome can be relieved by regular chiropractic treatment.

Common carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms include:

  • Pain in the wrist

  • Tingling, burning, numbness in the wrist or hand

  • Weakness or loss of grip in hand

  • Loss of sleep due to wrist and hand pain

Chiropractic treatment uses techniques to relieve pain in the affected carpal tunnel area as well as the back, shoulder, and neck, which may be causing symptoms of carpal tunnel and additional pain. It is important that after receiving treatment that you continue home exercises and apply cold to reduce inflammation.
