TMJ Syndrome

TMJ Syndrome

TMJ pain

TMJ Syndrome comes from problems within the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). The joint is comparable to a hinge that connects the jaw to the temporal bones of the skull (bones in front of each ear). It is because of this joint that you can talk, chew and yawn. Everyone has TMJ, but only some people suffer from TMJ syndrome. TMJ syndrome causes many uncomfortable problems that affect many adults today. It causes varying degrees of pain and discomfort, and the cause can either be from a traumatic injury or repetitive stress and wear on the jaw, such as:

  • Grinding or clenching teeth, this puts a lot of pressure on the TMJ.

  • The soft cushion and disc move between the ball and socket of the joint

  • Arthritis

  • Stress
